👋 My name is Stacy Li. I’m a 5th year PhD candidate in the Sudmant Lab at the University of California, Berkeley.
Background
From 2012 to 2016, I studied Microbial Biology in the College of Natural Resources at the University of California, Berkeley. After receiving my BSc, I spent a brief period of time working in biotech: first, studying the structure and function of human skin microbiome in inflammatory skin diseases, and second, working on protein biochemistry, biophysics, and ML + computer vision techniques to develop small molecule therapeutics for diseases of protein aggregation.
In my doctoral work, I study mutations, the proximal cause and consequence of aging and evolution. I develop both wet and dry lab methods to assess human genetic variation, especially structural variation. Above all else, I am driven to work on compelling problems that require biological and computational expertise in equal measure: you can read more about my current research here.
personal interests
I enjoy reading and learning about topics spanning the axes of science, technology, art, and social equity. In particular, I’m interested in emerging technologies and their future implications, human-computer interaction, and understanding how to become a better thinker and a kinder human.
In my spare time, I like to create pixel art, play video games, climb, whittle small wooden objects, dance, take photos of 木洩れ日 (komorebi, the sunlight filtering through trees), daydream, charge my phone, and tweet @voidshapes. You can reach me via email for all academic and professional inquiries:
